In material selection, we focused on lightweight, weather-resistant, and eco-friendly options that complement the B&B’s organic style. Unlike luxury urban hotels that use heavy solid wood, we chose FSC-certified lightweight solid wood composite boards, which are easier to transport to the remote mountain location while still offering sturdiness. We strictly controlled the moisture content between 7%-11% to prevent warping or cracking caused by Yunnan’s high-altitude temperature changes. For upholstery, we selected breathable, water-repellent linen-blend fabrics in earthy tones—beige, light brown, and moss green—that resist mildew and blend seamlessly with the tent’s canvas and the surrounding greenery, avoiding the harsh colors that would disrupt the natural view.
In design, we rejected the sleek, modern lines used in hotel projects and opted for a more rustic, handcrafted look that echoes Yunnan’s ethnic minority aesthetics. Instead of hidden details like induction lights, we incorporated simple, functional touches: detachable side tables for outdoor use, foldable seating that saves space, and bed frames with low profiles to keep the tent interior open and uncluttered. We added subtle local elements, such as hand-carved wooden handles inspired by Naxi and Yi ethnic patterns, which add character without being overly decorative—perfect for a B&B that values authenticity over grandeur.
Production and on-site execution were equally critical. Given the B&B’s remote location, we pre-assembled 80% of the furniture in our factory to minimize on-site work, reducing disruption to the natural environment. We used shock-proof, waterproof packaging to protect pieces during the mountainous transport, and our installation team traveled with lightweight tools to avoid damaging the tent grounds. Unlike hotel installations that focus on speed, we took extra care to anchor furniture securely on the tent’s soft flooring, using anti-slip pads to prevent wobbling and ensure guest safety.
This collaboration with Aru Laka taught us that furnishing a tent B&B is about more than just making furniture—it’s about enhancing the guest’s connection with nature. The final result? Cozy, durable pieces that feel like a natural extension of the landscape, allowing guests to relax in comfort while enjoying the beauty of Yunnan’s mountains. For Dushang, this project reaffirms our ability to adapt to unique project needs, delivering custom solutions that honor the essence of each location. We’re proud to have played a part in making Aru Laka a beloved retreat for nature lovers worldwide.
