Adjacent to Beijing Capital International Airport and New China International Exhibition Center (New Guozhan), Meilun Hotel occupies a strategic location that serves two high-demand groups: transit passengers in a hurry and exhibition attendees with tight schedules. As a mid-to-high-end hotel tailored for airport and exhibition hospitality, it undertakes a unique mission: providing efficient, comfortable, and practical accommodation for guests who value time, while also meeting the needs of temporary business meetings and quick rest. When Dushang Hotel Furniture Factory partnered with this hotel, we focused on solving its core pain points: creating furniture that adapts to high guest turnover, supports quick check-in/check-out, fits compact but functional spaces, and balances transit convenience with business formality.
Unlike regional urban hotels, coastal resorts, or rural homestays, this project’s core lies in “transit efficiency” and “exhibition scenario adaptability” balanced with comfort. Guests here are mostly in transit—needing quick rest, convenient storage for luggage, and functional workspaces for temporary tasks—or exhibition attendees carrying samples and documents, requiring sturdy, spacious areas for brief meetings. The hotel’s rooms are designed to be compact but well-utilized, and public spaces need to handle high foot traffic smoothly. This required us to abandon generic hotel furniture designs and adopt a “efficiency-oriented, space-saving” customization approach.
A key focus was balancing transit convenience with business practicality. For guest rooms, we prioritized space optimization and functional efficiency: compact but sturdy bed frames with under-bed storage for luggage, wall-mounted desks that save floor space, and multi-functional nightstands with built-in charging ports (including international sockets) to meet the needs of international transit passengers. We designed foldable seating that can be stored when not in use, maximizing room space for guests with large luggage. The lines were sleek and simple, avoiding unnecessary decoration, to create a clean, uncluttered environment that helps tired transit guests relax quickly.
For public areas—lobby, business lounge, and temporary meeting zones—we focused on high-traffic durability and flexible use. The lobby seating was designed to be sturdy, easy to clean, and arranged to facilitate quick rest for transit guests, with small side tables for luggage placement. The business lounge featured modular workstations and compact meeting tables that can be rearranged for small exhibition-related discussions, equipped with sufficient power outlets and USB ports. We chose neutral, professional tones (light gray, beige, and dark wood) to maintain a calm atmosphere, suitable for both quick rest and temporary business interactions.
Material selection was driven by the hotel’s high-turnover, high-traffic characteristics. We chose high-density engineered wood with scratch-resistant, wear-proof finishes, ensuring furniture can withstand frequent use and daily cleaning without showing signs of wear. Upholstery fabrics were selected for stain resistance, water repellency, and easy maintenance—critical for a hotel where guests may carry luggage, exhibition samples, or wet items from the airport. We also optimized the furniture’s structure to be lightweight yet sturdy, facilitating quick room cleaning and rearrangement between guests, which directly improves the hotel’s operational efficiency.
Collaboration with the hotel’s management was key to success. They shared insights into airport-exhibition hospitality habits—such as the need for extra luggage storage space, quick-access power points, and furniture that can be cleaned rapidly. We adjusted our production to prioritize easy assembly and disassembly, ensuring furniture could be installed efficiently to meet the hotel’s tight opening schedule, which coincided with a major exhibition period. The final result is furniture that not only meets the hotel’s high-efficiency operational needs but also enhances the guest experience for transit and exhibition travelers.
This partnership with Meilun Hotel showcases Dushang’s ability to tailor solutions for airport-exhibition hotels—a unique and high-demand segment of the hospitality industry. For Dushang, this project reinforces our commitment to understanding the specific needs of niche hotel types, delivering furniture that supports efficient operations, adapts to guest habits, and balances practicality with comfort, all while upholding the high standards of a hotel serving Beijing’s key transportation and exhibition hub.
