Sihanoukville, a vibrant coastal city in Cambodia, is emerging as a popular destination for both leisure travelers and business investors, thanks to its pristine beaches and booming tourism industry. Platinum International Hotel, strategically located near Sihanoukville Port and key tourist spots, caters to a diverse guest base—beachgoers, business travelers, and families alike. When Dushang Hotel Furniture Factory partnered with this hotel, we faced a unique challenge: creating furniture that thrives in Cambodia’s hot, humid coastal climate, meets the varied needs of mixed guest groups, and aligns with the hotel’s mid-to-high-end positioning—all while respecting local hospitality traditions.
Unlike urban academic hotels or remote tent B&Bs, this project’s core lies in “climate adaptability” and “guest diversity.” Sihanoukville’s year-round high temperature (25-35℃) and high humidity (70%-90%) pose serious tests for furniture durability, while the hotel’s dual focus on leisure and business means furniture must be both comfortable for vacationers and functional for business guests. This required us to break away from generic hotel furniture designs and adopt a “targeted customization” approach.
Our first priority was climate adaptation—a detail often overlooked in standard hotel projects. We selected materials specifically resistant to moisture, mold, and heat. For guest room and public area furniture, we used marine-grade solid wood composite boards, which are treated to resist humidity and prevent warping or rotting. We also applied a special anti-mildew coating to all wooden surfaces, ensuring furniture remains intact even in the coastal environment. Upholstery fabrics were chosen for breathability and quick-drying properties, avoiding heavy materials that retain moisture, and in light, cool tones (light blue, beige, and white) that reflect sunlight and create a refreshing, beach-friendly vibe.
Design was tailored to the hotel’s mixed guest base. For leisure travelers, we designed cozy, low-profile seating in the lobby and balcony areas, perfect for relaxing after a day at the beach, with removable cushions for easy cleaning. For business guests, guest rooms featured spacious, ergonomic workstations with built-in power outlets and cable management, while conference rooms were equipped with modular tables and comfortable, sturdy chairs that support long meetings. We also incorporated subtle Khmer design elements—such as delicate carvings inspired by Angkor Wat patterns on table edges—paying homage to local culture without being overly decorative.
Collaboration was key to this project’s success. Our team communicated closely with the hotel’s local management, who shared valuable insights into Cambodian hospitality habits—such as the preference for larger seating areas for family gatherings and the need for easy-to-maintain furniture in high-traffic areas. We also adjusted our logistics plan to account for Sihanoukville’s port delivery challenges, using reinforced, waterproof packaging to protect furniture during sea transport and arranging on-site installation teams familiar with local construction standards.
This partnership with Platinum International Hotel is more than a business achievement—it’s a testament to Dushang’s ability to adapt to diverse regional conditions and guest needs. The furniture not only withstands the coastal climate but also enhances the hotel’s appeal to both leisure and business guests, earning positive feedback from the hotel management and visitors. For Dushang, this project reinforces our commitment to delivering practical, durable, and culturally respectful furniture solutions for global hospitality brands, bridging Chinese craftsmanship with local needs in Cambodia’s growing tourism marke!
